Art Club After School Program is relatively new to Haverstraw Elementary School and is in it's 3rd year! Art Club is taught by Mrs. Bartunek once a week for about 12 weeks in the Fall and then again for another 12 weeks in the Spring.
Art Club is a place where students interested in Art can explore with more materials, techniques and concepts that directly relate to what they are interested in. Taken from the idea of Independent Studies done in High School & College level Art courses, students pick their "focus" for the 12 weeks and work independently to complete artworks relating to their "focus". Some students end up switching their "focus" to include extra experience in various art mediums. |

Q: What days does Art Club Meet?
A: Art Club meets every Wednesday unless there's no school. Q: What time does Art Club start & end? A: Art Club starts at 3:30pm in the Art Room & students begin dismissing at 4:15pm. Q: How does my student sign up for Art Club? A: The school will send home an Extra Curricular Activity Sheet in the beginning of the school year, students and families must fill out the form, check off the Art Club box, and then return the form to the Main Office in order to join. Q: My student signed up for Art Club but didn't get in, Why? A: Art Club has a capacity of 30 students, this is why we have an Art Club in Fall & Spring! If your student didn't make it into Art Club in the Fall, make sure they talk with Mrs. Bartunek and she will put them on the roster for the Spring. Q: How will communication be made if Art Club is canceled? A: Art Club has it's own Google Classroom and students join during the first meeting. This space is used to remind Art club of meeting times, things to bring (if needed) or any other announcements! You can also join Google Classroom as a Guardian so you can see these posts as well, just ask your student or Mrs. Bartunek to invite you! Additionally, an announcement will made in school during the morning and afternoon announcements on that day if Art Club is canceled. Q: My student is usually picked up from Art Club but needs to take the bus today, what do I do? A: Just call the main office and inform them of any changes with your student's dismissal routine. They will pass along the information to your student and/or Mrs. Bartunek. Q: Can my student join both the Art Club in Fall & Spring or are they only allowed to join just one? A: The reason why we have two Art Club sessions is due to the limited capacity of 30 students. If students aren't able to join Art Club in the Fall, that student will get a priority spot in the Spring. If your student wants to be in Art Club for the full year have them speak with Mrs. Bartunek and she will see what she can do! Q: Do I have to pay for my student to join Art Club? A: The Art Club program is FREE to join but we do ask for an optional $10 donation. If donated, the money is used to buy materials for your student to design and create their own, one of a kind Art Club T-Shirt! T-shirt designs change every year and only students in Art Club are able to get one! Q: Do I have to buy Materials for my student in Art Club? A: No, you do not need to buy materials. Art Club students are able to use the materials in the Art Room. Some students may want to bring things from home or buy something specific to use in their artwork but purchases are not necessary. Q: My student is talking about a field trip, what's that? A: Mrs. Bartunek is working on putting together an Art Field Trip for Art Club students, featuring art gallery visits, artist talks and even creating art outdoors. Mrs. Bartunek will provide more information to students & families when things are put in place during the Spring semester. Q: I saw an Art Club table selling things at a school event, what's that for? A: At some school events Art Club will sell pieces of Artwork made by our students. 100% of the proceeds from these sales go to our Annual Art Club Field Trip to pay for things like gallery entrance fees or taking students out to lunch. |
